Well, I got there in the end, and passed my test second time. Suffice to say Simon felt it necessary to add a picture of me getting a lift here with optimus prime to illustrate the point!
I drove to Wymondham and back on my own today and didn't have a heart attack or accident, which surprised me somewhat. My placement at the Constabulary which is in Wymondham started last week, and so far is going well.

Simon had his operation on Thursday, stayed in hospital for 3 nights, and will be an invalid for a few weeks too...poor thing.
